I'm not a reader. truly, I am not, at all, a reader. I am a gamer. however, I play games for the same reason one may read a book. the story; characters. comments and views on life, love, faith, and so on,
I love wolves. not literally, mind. They are my favorite animal. a friend of mine told me "I bet I could show you a book that you would love"
naturally, I was sceptical. The book was called "The Sight" written by Kevin Clement-Davies.
I could never have been more wrong.
now it isn't like I never read any books and I just hate them without trying. quite the contrary. I have, in my own terms, suffered through many "classics" New age included. Harry Potter, Eragon...I didn't like them. I read both Eragon books and 6 of the 7 Harry Potter. I really couldnt stand them.
So I went back to the stories I experienced in Baten Kaitos, Dot hack G.U., Eternal Sonata. The epic storywrites of the virtual world.
Finally, 4 days ago, I picked up "The Sight" It didn't take more than the first 10 pages for me to be completly hooked.
such a compelling story I had never read before. A story of tragity, love, death, family.
in fact, if there is an element of story writing that hadn't been covered in that book, it doesn't exist.
Comments on life, love, and eternity with such a compelling ring of truth, yet it never goes so far as to be "cheesy" or "corny"
Now, I have played so sad, sad video games before. and at the climax of the unfortenate drama, I would, at most, get watery eyes. The only time a story has made me cry was Baten Kaitos, at the climax of the story. And even that was, comparitivly, small.
However, by the 150th page of "The Sight" I had been in tears 3 times already. And the climax of the story....it had a visable effect on me. It was so deep and depressing that for a day I literally did nothing. I was content staring at a wall, mauling over the thought that had come from this book. That was yesterday.
Today, I started reading "Fell" the sequel. "The Sight" and the series that it has sprung about is the most beautiful piece of literature I have ever had the fortune of reading.
So, thats why I am here. I never liked reading books. I found their contents to be boring and repetitve; all a different way of telling the same story.
"the Sight" is easily the best story I have ever read. rather, the best story I have ever experenced, video game or other wise.
It is the single saddest, heart wrentching story I have ever experienced. For those two days I spent reading this book (it is not a small book, mind) I had felt the world was more real than possibally my own, and the loss of the character's in the story felt as real as the loss of my own family.
So please. Read this book. don't let it fall to the back of abbandoned book shelves.
