Wow, did that really happen? If it did, firstly, I'd suggest just reading the stupid section. I assure you that there are much grosser things than tapeworms that you'll probably be covering at some time during college. Secondly, ask the teacher if she thinks she's teaching a 5th grade class. College professors aren't supposed to waste their time calling home if you don't do your homework... From my experience, most of them actually get ticked off if you think you need to email them telling them you won't be in class due to illness or something... |

If you can't handle reading the material, then you shouldn't take the class. Really, it isn't that bad. Now maybe if you had to disect them there would be call for not doing it. But like Narrwald said, there are grosser things. Anyway, she did cross the line. You should approach her about it. But make sure you do it in a professional manner. (What you said in class wasn't professional.) You are both adults and she should have asked for you when she phoned and perhaps made an appointment to see you so you both could discuss the matter. And for future reference, if you think something is gorss, don't come out and say it. Just say you didn't get a chance to read that section for whatever reason. You probably wouldn't be the only one. |

"I didn't do the reading/assignment/material because I didn't like it" is not a valid excuse in anywhere, much less in college. But it is weird that she called home. What kind of college do you go to? |

I remember when I took Zoology in High school I had the same problem: I had a difficult time reading the material. "College professors aren't supposed to waste their time calling home if you don't do your homework..." That's very true. I know some of my professors didn't really care about what you did: you're paying for the class anyway. |

I remember this topic...at least it's in a more appropriate forum this time. And I think there are some new details that really improve on it. |

If you don't want her to treat you like a 5th grader you need to act like you aren't one. If you aren't going to follow the material and learn it because it's "gross" you don't belong in such a class at all, even if you feel like you don't want to be there. All I got to say is quit treating college like high school. You have higher expectations now and if you're going to act childish like you are with this then the hammer is only going to hit you harder. Also what's so strange about a professor contacting you? I know many of my professors would want to have a word with you if we did such a thing in their class. |
