It seems daft that the highest legal road speed you can do in Britain (this is on a motorway) is 70mph. Yet the average family car can do just over 120mph. Why? Unless you plan on taking your family car onto a racetrack there's no reason to get anywhere close to 120mph, unless you want to break the law. They should make cars able to only do a maximum speed of the highest legal speed of the country. Only emergency service vehicles and racecars should be built with the ability to do more than that. |

I'm not the biggest expert on cars but I think the reason they made a maximum speed so high is because when driving at an average speed it won't put much strain on the engine. Where as having the max speed as low as say 60-70 mph driving at the average speed would require a lot more work from the engine causing it to break down easier. |

whilst that is correct i would point out you can put a speed limiter on the car to stop it going above say 70 thing is it would actually make things more dangerous as at times it is actually safer to speed up and get past than slam on the breaks oh and in some countrys the speed limits are differnt, namly in germany the autobahns have an unlimited speed limit (that said they do also have the hardist driving test to pass in the world and if they think your driving a bit too fast they will do you for dangerous driving) |

Just because the speedometer in your car says say 120 on it, doesn't mean it will actually go that fast, unless you perhaps really push it. No doubt cars can go quite fast, but the maximum speed limit in Australia is probably 100 km/h and the speedometer only goes up to about 120, and there may be roads that go up that high. Speeding is a dangerous thing, and I am glad you have learnt not to. The man that spoke to you probably is aloud to have a girlfriend and go to movies, etc. He probably just doesn't want to, or maybe you heard wrong. Did he have any missing limbs or noticable scars? |

PJH, the lawbreakers would just steal police cars then. Besides, the car companees want to sell a car whether the buyer is a fugitive or not. |

The sports cars like Ferraris probably go really fast because they're trying to break the fastest production car record. |

Yeah maybe however I don't think the average U.S. American pockets $300,000 for basic transportation. I mean seriously, who needs to speeding above fifty on a residential street? |

No, my speeding days are over as I know it. Maybe in a decade when I start making my own money I'll buy a move on from cars to motorcycles and buy a Ducati like my Dad. The older you become the more you realize there are more imporant things in life than the need for speed. One crash is all It takes to ruin your life. All of those motivation speeches by crash-victims I thought were a load of bull. But once you get out onto the open road you will see how vulnerable you are. It's scary sometimes knowing the choices you choose are life-changing. Something as simple as speeding. You may not quite understand my point of view over the internet. After experiencing yourself or hearing it from someone else will you realize how crucial your choices are. I advise driving at lower speeds. Then when you get older and more experienced take your car to a track where the real racing happens. Stay safe. |

Well, its not exactly speeding in my case buuut about 2 years ago a drunk driver sped into our house. He hit the laundry room and our porch. Had he turned the steering wheel a qaurter of an inch he would have hit me, because I was sleeping on the couch. (My room was burning hot that night.) As my dad dug out some of the debris to make sure the driver's airway wasn't blocked (huh) and the last thing that drunk man said was "Don't tell my wife." Secondly, My bit on speeding. It was a regular Friday and me, my sister and my brother (I was 11, my little sister was 6 and my brother was 8) were about to cross the road to get on the bus. THe bus stopped the sign went out and the lights flashed. My brother ran to about the middle and suddenly a car came out of nowhere. Next thing I knew he was laying on the road, blood poruing out from above his eye, on the brink of unconcsiousness(I was around the brink of crazy xd). The lady gets out of her car and hugs me and I push her away. She had been speeding to get to work and in the process hit my baby brother, the one who always had a smile on his face, who loved to laugh and make others laugh, and always loved acting, ATVing and all that stuff. The Services were called and he made it to Sick Kids Hospital by helicopter, where he stayed two weeks. He had a concussion and needed stitches and had hurt his neck. He stayed out of school for a week after aswell and today he is healthy and living well, but now we live on a private road and there ae less cars :D ~Moo |
