You'll feel MUCH better giving up something you love even though it's considered immature...trust me, I've been through it. |

Psychologically, no comment. Physiologically, yes. It can cause bucked teeth. It's not a sure thing, but it can. Especially when you're a teen.. |

Not just buck teeth, it can cause any growing teeth to grow "around" where your thumb usually is, causing them to grow slanted outwards, or inwards, and may cause a gap. I should know, I did a 10 minute presentation on oral health and got 100%. P: And if it weren't for that presentation, I probably wouldn't have gotten an A in that class, now that I think about it... |

Yes you need to stop. I had the habit horribly. I tried lots of methods too. The sour stuff that u put on ur thumb, hot sauce, my parents would come in every once awhile in the night and take it out. I even put it under my pillow, but i woke up with it in my mouth. I had to get a specific retainer (it wasn't removable either) for it. It worked. I have to get braces now tho and i think thats the reason. |
