You speak of it as a nessicity (sp?) Why do you think we have free will? We do what we want and face our own consequenses. We don't need a stranger off of gametalk to tell us not to be consumed by so called 'sins'. This is exactly the sort of thing i was referring to in my last post. Pushing it under everybody's face. |

They have much more immediate consequences in this life. If you have too much pride, people will hate you for it. Too much sloth, and you'll be unsatisfied with life. Too much wrath can, again, make people loathe you. Envy and Greed are really one and the same, too much of them and you'll never be happy, regardless of how much you have. Too much lust, and the only partners you'll ever get will want only s3x, and those that do want not only s3xual relationships won't take you seriously. Gluttony, well, you'll become really low on energy and depressed all the time and probably fat. Mostly, you don't want to do any of the seven deadly sins in excess. A good amount is good for you, however. |

Nothing wrong with any of those in moderation (some are good in excess :P). Except lust, which should be struck off the list for being a stupid idea in the first place. Stupidity can take it's place. That's a real sin. And adding putting stupid people in charge of something is another thing that should be added :) |

He who has died has been aquited of his sin. (Romans 6:7) But the rest is correct. The wages of sin is death, nothing else. (Romans 6:23) |

If you are too self-absorbed, people will hate you and thus you will be a lonly ego filled person (Just like Kaiba). Greed, like I stated before, is where you just want more and more and you are never satisfied. If you're greedy and you have a trillion dollars, you could want more because you think money is happiness, when it is not. Bumsex would fall under lust. Murder I think would fall under wrath. "Stupidity can take it's place. That's a real sin. And adding putting stupid people in charge of something is another thing that should be added" you can't go to hell because you're stupid. Look at Lincoln. He had a very low IQ and yet he's in heaven. Look at Napolean. He had a very high IQ and yet he's in hell. Being stupid isn't something you can controll, where as your desire for money is. |

As Aristotle pointed out; it is the median of every characteristic, that is most virtuous. A characteristic can be called dangerous, or harmful, or a weakness when that characteristic is excessive or deficient. For example: The median of pride is self-esteem. The excess of pride is arrogance. The deficient of pride is self-depreciation. Sloth/Laziness would be the deficient of commitment - which would be the median. And the extreme of commitment would be hyper-focusing or overstraining yourself. The median of wrath is indignation or a sort of flaring passion for justice. The excess of wrath would be violent fury or an ill-temper. The deficient of wrath would be sissyness, or diffidence, or being easily bullied. The median of envy is inspiration/asperation, or having a hero, or looking up to someone. The excess of envy would be jealousy. The deficient of envy would be vagrancy, being uninspired or lost, hero-less. Lust would be the excess of fondness, which would be the median. The deficiency of fondness would be indifference, or being uncaring, or unkind. Greed would be the excess of ambition, or enterprise, or having high goals, these of which would be the median. The deficiency of greed would probably be profligation (recklessly wasteful). Gluttony would be the excess of balanced eating, which would obviously be the median. The deficiency of balanced eating would be under-eating, or malnutrition. |

Correction: Greed would be the excess of ambition, or enterprise, or having high goals, these of which would be the median. The deficiency of ambition, enterprise, or having high goals, would be aimlessness, under-achievement, an apathy toward your own future and personal well-being. |

Lincoln was a brilliant writer. We'll leave it at that. Too much lust, and the only partners you'll ever get will want only s3x, and those that do want not only s3xual relationships won't take you seriously. What are you talking about, Xhin? I've never understood your views on sex. There is nothing that says "People who want sex don't want relationships". Sex is a very healthy part of a relationship. Too much can cause you to burn out, but it's not bad. It's just natural. |

everyone has a soul right? and in the old teachings of hindu philosophers(and buddhist)they bealieve that the soul represents desire, thurst and hunger, it tricks the senses and causes your brain to trip out and loose a sense of reason and makes you want to quinch that thurst-life is a test, yogi's are in constant state of mind in which they are trying to supress their soul(desire).what they believe is that if they accieve this they can acheive enlightenment. now, do you have to beleive this, no, i personaly don't beleive you have to supress anything, its life, respond to your inner feelings-or else you will never be full, or in that case you will starve from life due to the inexperiences or lack of you doing sins.(just don't do in excess-do enough for the taste;) |

I know Lincoln had a low IQ because of my english teacher. she gave us these sheets last year and the names of famous people were replaced with common names, but the information was the same. I am not god nor am I trying to be. Since you put idiodicy like that, it's still not a sin. it's just being a dumb@$$. |

Are we all aware that The Seven Deadly Sins arent ANYWHERE in the bible? Just making sure...I mean, they were accepted into "Catholic Canon," but they were written by St. Gregory The Great in the 6th century. |

Watts: If you think only about s3x, then it's natural that your successful partners will think the same as you, so all of your relationships will be about s3x, and then if you get out of it later down the line, you'll have problems because people have known you so long to be only about the s3x that they won't take you seriously when you want other things. Beckett hit the nail on the head, by the way. "All things in moderation", or the "Middle Way", as the Buddhists call it. |

But lust doesn't necessarily mean all you think about is sex, does it? I was under the impression that lust was just the wanting of sex, not the obsession. |

Kudos to Beckett who knows Ethica Nicomachea by heart. :) 'In medio stat virtus' is how Latins translated Aristotle's motto. We still use it today. May I point out that placing Lincoln in Heaven and Napoleon in Hell amounts to the sin of pride, in that you are taking up the role of God? As you yourself said: Avoid this! |

Well, it depends who you are asking. If you were to go to a White Supremist rally, they would be glad to give you a myriad of bad points of Lincoln. And if you were to go to a Napolean enthusiast, then they would be able to give you just as many reasons to why Napolean should go to heaven, most likely along the lines that he restored france, and brought it out of Robspierre's "reign of terror." |

Ok riku. You have no right to say who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. When jesus was on the cross there was also two theifs next to him. One went to heaven because he believed in Jesus and because he was sorry for what he had done. this shows that just because you have done some bad things in your life dosent me you can't go to heaven. If you are treuly sorry for your sins then they will be forgiven. And telling someone or saying someone is in hell is also a sin. You have no right to judge other people. The other topic I wanted to talk about was lust. Why does everyone think lust just refers to s3x as in man and women? Lust refers to masterbation, or any other type of s3xual gradification ( this includes lust full thoughts.) The Ten comandments are the rules of life. Follow those and you won't have to worry about the 7 deadly sins. The other thing I wanted to say was this. Everyone puts blame on a religion when some one says something retarded. You should stop doing that, its not the religion, its the person. Religion didn't make them retarded they were born retarded. I hope my point of view was of some help. Have a good day |

actually gluttony isn't just about food either. Its doing anything too excessive, such as obsessive compuslive disorders. probably most people do a bit of every of those 7 sins every freakin day. Generation X and Y are a whole lot lazier then baby boomers, thanks to technology and things getting easier to do. Also X and Y's these days cuss like sailers and totally have no respect for their elders (yes talk about short temper). Yes I can say that all the rich/popular preps have alot of pride... Especially that retarded MTV show Sweet 16. Envy and lust in my opinion is natural. We all want to be really good in some way or another. excessivly is too bad though. Why don't you guys follow the 7 virtues (complete opposite of the 7 deadly sins) The Virtues Ranked in ascending order of sanctity, the seven holy virtues are: Chastity (Latin, virtus) (courage, opposes lust) — Courage and boldness. Embracing of moral wholesomeness and achieveing purity of thought through education and betterment. Generosity (Latin, liberalis) (will, opposes greed) — Willingness to give. A nobility of thought or actions. Moderation (Latin, frenum) (self-control, opposes gluttony) — Constant mindfulness of others and one's surroundings; practicing self-control, abstention, and moderation. Zeal (Latin, industria) (ethics, opposes sloth) — A zealous and careful nature in one's actions and work. Decisive work ethic. Meekness (Latin, patientia) (peace, opposes wrath) — Forebearance and endurance through moderation. Charity (Latin, humanitas) (satisfaction, opposes envy) — Charity, compassion, friendship, and sympathy without prejudice. Humility (Latin, humilitas) (modesty, opposes pride) — modest behavior, selflessness, and the giving of respect. |
