I need getting help with putting photos on my new mac

I just got a mac, and it is my first one, and I plug my camera in the USB port drive, and I can't find it anywhere. Can someone help me thanks. I have a gateway dc-m42 or something like that, if that effects any thing.

Also, if I need something, if I download iPhoto, will it take my photos off my camera???????

Person and Time

K, I've been camera shopping for my wife the last few weeks cause it's her birthday in a few days( well, she said she wants one which is a hint I best not ignore). Anyway, the camera you have will suck away your pocket change and maybe your patience in equal amount. Extremely short battery life, bad pictures, lousy focus time, connectivity probs(sound familiar?) bad macro function, etc. If you just got it you might seriously think about taking it back. The one I decided upon is the 'Sony Cybershot DSC-T100 8MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom'. Can get it for 285 $ at Amazon, new. *plunks*

Since I'd have to read up on iPhoto like any other newb, I'll leave that task to you.
