Okay... Sonic Canon is very confusing
|
So, a few days ago, I posted a post debating Hyper Shadow's name (I know, you guys are all going to talk about how it's Super Shadow), but I heard some weird stuff about canon. Shadow's existence isn't canon? Well, either way, while he was one of the coolest characters, all his games other than the epic SA2B suck! Especially after every character for some reason got voice changes. Wait, which other characters in that case would not be canon? And the Super Emeralds aren't canon either? Wait a minute, I thought they were part of Sonic 3 & Knuckles! Even if SADX/SA2B are spinoffs, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is one of the original games on the Sega Genesis, as well as being the first Sonic game to have a legit plotline, which led to future Sonic games continuing the Chaos storyline (S3&K, SADX, and SA2B are what I call the Chaos Arc, the best part of the series)! The Super Emeralds, while not plotline-driven, were still a bonus part of the game (definitely a bonus that Sega should have kept, Hyper Sonic was AWESOME!). So, if bonus things are not canon, does that mean that in the Final Fantasy 7 universe, Emerald and Ruby Weapon are not canon since they are (really hard) optional bosses? So in conclusion, game series canon has left me confused.

I think canon has something to do with "what actually happened", and it's a term that a lot of fanfiction authors talk about a lot. |

It's not too hard to realize what's canon. SEGA expressed that Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't canon, the game, with Black Doom and all that crap. Shadow himself, sadly, is canon. SEGA also expressed that the Super Emeralds were a bonus gimmick for those who bought both games(Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles). They really were a gimmick and nothing more, and their real existence in the Sonicverse can be debated, but most people will agree that they aren't canon at all. You might as well express that Sonic '06 isn't canon either, as LOLITDIDN'THAPPEN. Seriously, it's good to know that crap isn't around anymore in the Sonicverse. |

Don't forget Sonic Battle. That's not Canon either. The Hyper Emeralds were there as a bonus, and nothing more. As much as I'd love to see Hyper Forms return, I don't think it'll ever happen. I heard they were planning on taking an indefinite break from Sonic after Sonic 3, and that was another reason to why they put Hyper in. As a possible end. Not sure how true that is, though it is a popular theory. |

All the Genesis Sonic games (except Spinball & CD) are canon, in the order they came out. Adventure is after Sonic 3 (true version, meaning Sonic 3 & Knuckles) & 3D Blast could be canon, with the flickies being prominent minor characters in the series. It's between Sonic 3 & Adventure. Adventure 2 came after Adventure, Heroes came after Adventure 2, Shadow could be canon, coming after Heroes, & Unleashed might be canon. The rest aren't real. |
