((Yeah, sorry! Christmas was great, but I never really had a chance to RP... I think things will speed up now that it's over. Uh, I didn't read any of the other posts earlier, like Tain the Bard's, but hopefully I didn't miss too much.)) ~Daedagnir merely stood still, one hand on his chin, the the other at his waist, as the new arrivals came in. After a short bit of silence, he spoke up: "You have my appologies, Lord Glaurung, but I did not intend for any to show up here. However, if we are to continue negotiantions, let us lay our weapons aside, out from under the roof. Tain the Bard shall stay, if you do not object, and record the goings on. Although, he must be searched for any sort of weapon as well. Assassins ruin the purposes of meetings..." ~The Elf unbuckled his sword belt with one hand as he spoke, then removed the dirk from its hiding place on his back. Once both weapons were laid on the ground outside of the meeting-place, he turned back to Glaurung. "You must do the same with any weapon that you carry with you - as well as your mount. My guards will search you for any hidden daggers or the like, and you may search me as well."~ |

"I do not wish to be searched neither do I request the same of you, my word is all that I can and shall offer. This sword and dagger are all that I carry upon and I am not afraid to cast them away from me during these talks. For if you were to harm me then my men would take revenge upon you and this city in ways unimaginable to you and I'm sure you are aware of this." -Glaurung spoke as he drank once more. He laid his sword and dagger on the table.- "Do you not drink? If you wish that Tain stays and records the words that we shall speak, then I insist that you drink with me as is the custom in my lands." |

~The Elf had forgotten about the drink... Upon Glaurung's second request, he took a few steps over to the table and drained the glass slowly. Drinking was not his custom, but he did not mind doing it when it seemed fit. His intentions were not to please this man; but neither did he wish to display rudeness when it could be helped. "Then, if you have no more objections, let us get down to the point. It is you who called for this meeting, so I will let you begin. The old bard is simply along for the ride, although if you wish for him to leave, it will be done." ~Even if only out of the corner of his eye, the Elf kept a careful, yet not intimidating, eye on the man and his wolf.~ |

"We have caught word of the gathering of troops here. The building of fortifications and would like to know the meaning of all this...we feel threatened..." |

~Daedagnir was not surprised by Glaurung's words. "Indeed, we have been building up our forces and defenses quickly and powerfully. I am sure that if you were in my place you would have done the same. Several weeks ago a message directed at me was sent to Rivendell. Its exact words I have forgotten, yet it's meaning is still fresh in my mind: A threat of war. There is one of many of my reasons for building up a great host of Elves here. Yet even before that I had a desire to gather the Elves together to wage war again against Mordor and its minions. When I heard of your expansion of the Losoth Empire, it seemed that you wished for war... But now that we are here, I am not sure if that was your true intention - or at least, if you wish to wage war on my people. My actions that have seemed like a threat to you were done only to defend ourselves if needed." ~Here he broke off. Glaurung, he was sure, got the general point.~ |

"So...if I understand correctly you were afraid of actions by our empire, but did not even make an attempt to contact us?" |

~Your typical leader, human or Elf, would most likely have blushed at Glaurung's words. But Daedagnir was not the typical leader, was he? Intead his lips curled up in a grin, face concealing showing no emotion. "You are right - somewhat. I did not make any attempt to contact you, Lord Glaurung. A lack of communication on my part, perhaps, but I do not feel regret. Whether or not you wished to wage war on me, I did not know, but if your plans were indeed to battle the forces of Rivendell, I doubt you would have been so easily deterred. Actions speak for themselves. But you seem to have missed a few of my points... I did not say that we became suddenly so prepared because of your actions. There were several other reasons, even some that I did not mention before. And do not think me fearful. War is upon the land, whether we fear it or not." ~His voice, as usual, carried its quiet tone, yet a strong air of desisiveness and command could still be felt.~ |

-Glaurung filled Daedagnir another glass and shoved it to him. Glaurung was grinning, he knew that his last response had done something to Daedagnir. Luckely for Daedagnir only soldiers were present, because taking such a response would have been a blown to his image. Not even attempting to stop the Losoth peacefully while they were a treath? How much credibility would he keep if this became public? With a little luck Glaurung had already driven him into a corner.- "Other reasons? I'd say that we were the main reason these past times...An unknown force that spreads so fast. Of course you must have heard of our victory in the Battle of Angmar. Eighty thousand...slaughtered. An entire field red with blood. Over a distance of a threethousand passes bodies lied, rotting. If a bird was to fly over the site he would fall dead in the midst of it because of the smell and death that wanders trough the air there. So great was our victory. Are you telling me that such an event did not trigger your interest in us? Even such a battle was not enough for you to contact us?" -The tone in Glaurung's voice had become heave and the two last questions had sounded as if they were part of an inquisition.- "But let us not stand still at that. We have contacted you and I am here now." -His tone had become more gentle now. With these last words he attempted to embarass Daedagnir in the presence of this puny bard and his ridiculous soldiers. Glaurung wondered what Daedagnir's reaction would be. Glaurung looked down upon Rivendell and it's inhabitants. They were busy with beauty and not with the real things that kept Eä busy. Untill recently that is, one of the reasons why he had contacted them.- "Alright, enough with the chitchat...I am here to present you an ultimatum. We demand full command over the High Pass. Our armies may pass through your territory that surrounds the city. Our acts in the west shall be allowed by you and the other leaders of Rivendell and you shall let this be known to your allies." -The tone of his voice had sounded harsh. Only interupted by a big slab of saliba that had fallen from the White Wolf's mouth and had splashed upon the ground. Glaurung had almost sounded commanding, even when talking about the Battle of Angmar he wasn't talking like this. He spoke loud, so his words could be heard by the guards, he spoke as if he wanted that the entire world would have heard his words...- |

((Once again, I'm very sorry for the delay.)) ~Daedagnir remained calm throughout Glaurung's entire speech. Obviously, the man wanted the Elf Lord to act in a way that could be used against him later. This man was a shrewd one... The Elf would be sure to choose his words more carefully now. As for the Battle of Angmar, he said only: "It does not bother me to know that a great enemy, Angmar in this case, is suddenly annihilated. You spared us from having to do that ourselves. However, before long I knew that I would have to meet you in person, as we are here. We are here to discuss diplomacy, let us keep it to the point now." ~As he spoke he poured Glaurung another glass as well, returning the favor. As for his own glass, he would wait until his guest had taken a sip. Although it was Glaurung's wine, the man was still a guest in Rivendell. It would be, improper, for the Elf to show no hospitality. "As for the ultimatum you have presented, it seems to me like a one-way deal. Why would I give you what you ask if I see nothing in it for myself and Rivendell? Your men will be allowed to come and go as they please, but there does not seem to be any way that my own people will benefit." ~Even though Glaurung raised his voice in a show of power, Daedagnir kept his own calm, his tone steady. However, his words were clearer than they had been before; firmer too.~ |

"One way deal? But you get a whole lot out of this deal. Your city may continue to florish. Ass you certainly know you and your Elves exist entirely by our grace!" |
