When you make a new post, it says "Password Added!". Added? Is there some kind of password database that only the admins can see? |

Not 'new post', I meant 'make a post with a new username'. |

I'm not a mod, but I would believe... When you use a new User Name and put in a password, it would say Password added. That password is yours ONLY. The mods cannot see your password. |

Of course there is a password database. But while Mike would be able to access it, it wouldn't help him. Traditionally, when a password is created, it is encrypted, then stored. So, for instance, if my password was "password", that might get encrypted as "o34j23dt" or something. Then, in the user database, the password entry for DeWayne Mann would be "o34j23dt". The encryption system is designed so that there is no easy way to turn "o34j23dt" into "password", but "password" can always be turned into "o34j23dt", and nothing else will turn into "o34j23dt" (the way that works is pretty complicated. if you're interested, look into the field of cryptography). Then, whenever I post, whatever password I supply gets encrypted, and that result is compared to the one on file. Thus, if I tried to post with the password "wrong", that might get turned into "owerp". Then when the posting system compared "owerp" to the correct value of "o34j23dt", they won't be equal, and so it won't let me post. But if I tried the correct password, then they would match, and it would be allowed. So, basically, Mike could see a bunch of 'passwords' that looked all crazy, but not the real ones. |

The admin knows how things on his site are encrypted, doesn't he? After all, he either installed or created the encrypting system for his site. You would think he could unencrypt things if he wanted to. Epedemical |

Moderators do not. Administrators likely have it set up in a database, but I doubt they seriously have time to do that. They only added the password feature because people always used to steal people's names. |
