I love motor racing and I got into consoles with Gran Turismo 2/PSOne and -- big time! -- with GT3 on the PS2. I play a number of racing games -- including 24 Hours of Le Mans, in real time! -- but I have some adventure titles as well.

What elements make a game great?
|
|
Most important? It has to be challenging -- it has to encourage you to be better than you were before. All the visual stuff is important, and especially sound -- though music is of minor value in a racing game. (It's an important element for setting mood in others, though.) By playing the game and learning to do better, it teaches you something about yourself.

What makes a game suck?
|
|
Stupidity: I hate being insulted by a game's function or interface. I take that personally and it reflects hugely on the designer/publisher. And I make that very clear in reviews: Game designers, insult your audience at your peril.

Philosophy of life:

|
Mutual respect. No one has to earn points in my book. I give everyone I meet 100% right off the top, and you only lose points by proving that you shouldn't have them.
Also, diversity. Variety is the colour of life and I'd rather have a long discussion with someone who I fundamentally disagree with than hang around with people just patting me on the back -- I learn more, and learning is a lifelong challenge.

|
|
:: I respect what the mods do and want to be part of that.
:: I respect GameTalk's visitors (and there are lots who are watching but don't post) and I want to help create an atmosphere where they can feel comfortable and free to participate at their own level.
:: It's important to me to be engaged, to give back when I can for what I've received. And I've received a lot at GameTalk.

What kind of bands / music do you like?
|
|
Not much that's ever currently popular, but a ton of stuff in almost every category. Pick 2? Jazz, classic rock.

What books would your recommend?
|
|
Anything -- JUST READ!!! Reading opens up worlds that you can never visit, and gives texture and insight into the world you live in. In science fiction, for one area, you can find engaging stories about anything, because any good story is really about the characters.
