Iron Man *possible Spoilers*
|
Iron Man, the first of an unconfirmed three part franchise, is a rollercoaster ride of high speed special effects, techno geek wizardry, intelligence and Atonement. Tony Stark the protagonist played magnificently by Robert Downy JR is a Billionaire Playboy who would much rather enjoy the 15 minutes of pleasure from a Scotch or sexy super model then a lifetime of achievement from an honest days work. Which of course is all about to change. The special effects of the film take a back seat to this change which could not have been played better by any other actor. Tony Stark is quite possibly the most interesting and complex marvel character that has been put to the screen. Oh where were you when they were casting Daredevil Mr. Downy? Anyways, Early on in the film our protagonist Tony witnesses acts of true heroism as a convoy he is apart of in the middle east somewhere is attacked by Terrorists who then threaten to kill him unless they work for him. This the Beginning of Tony’s Transformation into Iron man. Destroying his old life in the flames of bitter regret and rising above the ashes like the phoenix. Act two lightens up a bit as we see a montage of Tony building an updated version of his suit in order to be the hero we all know he is capable of. Unlike most films where the hero jumps really high for about 5 minutes this Montage is actually entertaining with a surprising amount of perfect comedic timing. The film as they say is not with out its Flaws. Act three of the film seems to be written entirely by someone else. All the badassry of the suit is completely gone and editing problems attack the screen at full force. What are suppose to be the two most advance weapons mankind has ever created results in a Rock um Sock um Robot match which doesn’t pay off on any level. Don’t worry, the film wont leave you disappointed from the lack luster climax if you wait for the credits to end. What I found the most appealing about Tony Stark is the reason why he dawns an Iron suit (Gold Titanium Alloy) and travels the world fighting terrorism and Iron Giant knock offs. Obligation to protect his girlfriend? Dead parents who gave him catch phrases of motivation? Guilt over a dead uncle? Not exactly. This man in all his vulnerability alcoholism (we see him with a glass very often) womanizing and loneliness is nothing like any hero at all however uses his brilliant mind, advanced understand of technology, and Iron Suit to above all else Help People. There is nothing more heroic then that.

I thought they made his reasons or cause of joining the Good Fight was a bit too similar to Spider-man. It was that guy dying and telling Tony that basically, he needs to start being responsible given that he has so much power. It's not exactly the same as Spidey, but I thought it was a little too similar. Otherwise, I thought the end of the film, the fights between the two robot suits was totally awesome for the short time it lasted. I didn't think the badassness of the suit left at all. The problem was that the fight was WAY too short. But it was an awesome short fight. It needed to be longer, with other parts of the film shorter. I'm still not sure how I feel about Downey. I thought he did a fine job, and I'm fine with him as Stark, I guess I just felt that he was a bit too much like a Brian Bendis written Tony Stark. When are we going to get a superhero who we can actually take a little bit seriously? I still think though that my favorite things; I liked how it started 20 minutes into the story, and then went back in the story to the start and worked its way back (I thought that was a very comic book thing to do, though they do use that in film, it's more a comic book thing to do). I liked that he didn't end up with Pepper. I liked the set up for SHIELD (I mean, they were name dropped pretty much), the Mandarin, and War Machine. And I loved that he admitted he was Iron Man at the end. I actually found the end of the actual film to be more interesting than the Nick Fury bit after the credits. The thing about the Nick Fury bit was not so much that he was in it (which I knew he was), but what he said. I had expected him to say something like "My name's Nick Fury...we need to talk." That's more or less what he did say, but I did not expect him to NAME DROP THE AVENGERS! I had a mini-geekasm when he said that. |

Yah sorry about that Teh Pwns. I copied and pasted it from a Word Processor program (a very cheap and out dated one) I didn't realize it needed to be spaced properly after doing so. I'll remember to do that in the future. Sorry everyone who is turned off by that. It wasn't my intent for it to be huge and blocky. The end fight seemed like to people in two suits that didn't know how to use them properly. Other then fly. So I was kind of bored with it. Granted Fireing tons of rockets and propulsion blasts in a crowded street wouldn't be Tony Starks perogative (unless we are talking Civil War Tony Stark) so in retrospect It was a lot better after you let it sink it. Excellent effects. The "I am Iron Man" Line was a breath of fresh air. I am sick and tired of the Secret Identity but let everyone that knows you know about it Crap that these films usually fall plague of (especially Spiderman) The Avengers Initative line was freaking Awesome. |

I like secret identities, but they never seem to really work in the films. I mean, Batman? He is the WORST at hiding his identity. I know he chooses to reveal who he is to people (mostly women), but since when was that really Batman's style? It's lame. And then Spider-man? The only one who doesn't know who he is? Aunt May. Lame. Plus, in this case with Iron Man, while Stark did try to maintain a secret identity for a while, it totally fit in his character to just reveal it, and it should open up an interesting story for the second film. The thing about the final fight or whatever, you say it looked like two people who don't know how to use their suits properly, but it sounds like a bad thing. I think that's good since that is exactly what it's supposed to be. I thought the fight was pretty awesome for the extremely short time that it lasted. I thought it was awesome when Iron Monger grabbed that motorcycle going by. I thought it was pretty cool when Iron Man used that one hand thruster to give himself a bit of a jump and then hit Iron Monger. I thought it was a pretty cool fight, and I liked that it was sort of amateur-like since they both were amateurs in the armors. |

OMG Ironman is the BEST Marvel movie yet. Better than Spiderman, Hulk, Dare Devil, FREAKIN EVERYONE! I was just expecting just another so, so Marvel movie like Dare Devil, or Elektra, but man this was awesome from start to finish! P.S. I dont think his change was anything similar to Spiderman. Tony Stark saw his weapons that gave him everything, take so much away from everyone else in war. Sure he wanted to save that guy, but if he was that much an influence eon Stark he would have been mentioned later on and he was forgotten. I also agree Robert Downey Jr. played this role phenomenally! That literally could not have found another person to play this role to a tee like Downey did. |

I don't mean to make it sound like it was a mirror situation to Spider-man, but I felt like that the whole thing with the dude dying and having last words for Tony Stark that was basically "with great power comes great responsibility." The transformation started before that whole bit, but that part was particularly reminiscent of Spider-man. |

I can sorta see what you mean there, but when you think about it, that was his motivation to get out of weapons. His motivation to get into the suit was seeing that it was his weapons being handed over to the opposition. Loved the final fight, Fury, and most things about this movie. Not so much the reporter, she was irritating, and yeah, the "I am Iron Man" was great. |
