Camouflage ftw. Nothing that I found worked better against more opponents, flesh and machine. Takes only a few encounters to learn how to use it real well and it can save a ton of ammo, eve, and health. Defeats security bots also (thus, cameras and alarms) but don't get cocky with it.
Always keep a full load of auto hackers. It's the only way to stop your cash outflow on the hard safes when you really stinking need whatever's in there, and long as you keep looting bits and pieces for the you-build-it stations the hack tools are practically free. Gather gather gather. Don't overlook the tonic that lets you search everything twice, as that makes gathering a formidable engineering inventory very very easy. Keep an eye on your auto hacker inventory for later in the game, you may already know, and don't hesitate to replace each one at a you build it when you run, or sneak, up to one.
Back to this, I can't emphasize enough how important the second search option is, as anything can be searched again for different items in a bid to either save cash, or, if you don't need the cash/item, you may find the item/cash with the additional search. You really never know what'll turn up. Fewer big daddy encounters will be needed if nothing else, but if you do have to engage a big daddy you get to search it again for a chance at more cash.
You may already know, take pictures of every single animated object you can(up to a point), and max your eve capacity asap. Oddly, it's hard to offer solutions when there are so many options.
And, Annie Lennox?
Btw your electric bill will skyrocket if you use that plasma display any more than you have to. ..Cash!
