ok i saw some posts from people wanting to know info on races so here they are.....
argonian: weak skill bonuses, and weak specials.of course there is the pernament water breathing.suitable only for people who favour lizards and certain role-playing concepts.choose a male for a stealth or combat role, a female for a spell casting role.
breton: recommended for conservative, defense spellcasters.good, balenced package of specials. a breton has marginally better attributes for a pure spellcaster role then the high elf, which is slightly better suited for occasional melees.
dark elf: recommended for battlemage roles.the summoned ghost is a level 1 creature, wimpy to start and useless as you raise your levels, but the fire resistance is significant agianst annoying scamps and such. well rounded but unexceptional attributes.
high elf: recommended for offensive, go-for-broke spellcasters. very aggresive and risky to combine with the apprentice birthsign for very high maximum magicka and very high vulnerability to spellcasting enemies. choose a high elf over the breton for slightly better melee attributes.
imperial: undistinguished skill bonuses, and the star of the west is useless in most cases.undistinguished attributes unless you love speechcraft, mercantile, and illusion skills.fairly good hybrid character, lower effectivness in some things.
khajiit: recommended with reservations for thief concepts. wood elf is the better choice for marksman sneak attacks.demortilize is occasionally useful, but night eye is ideal for sneaks. exceptable attributes for a thief role.
nord: recommended for melee fighters.the orc has better skill bonuses, while the nord has exceptable attributes for a pure combat role.
orc: also recommended for melee fighters.best skill bonuses, and berserk is cool.attributes are significantly inferior to nord or redguard for a pure melee role.
redguard: recommended for combat and melee fighters.fair skill bonuses, specatular adrenaline rush.the redguard has exceptional attributes for a pure combat role.
wood elf: recommended for stealth fighters.very good skill bonuses;command creature is great to have in some parts of the game, and are problem solving.wood elf has exceptional attributes for stealth roles.
i hope you read all of this, and decide for yourself. this info is not my opinion, but was provided by the stats of the official oblivion guide!
