I've posted before that I couldn't get the game to work after trying a few suggestions, then I found out what my problem was, which was pretty weird, so I'll post some trouble shooting here for reference.
1. Make sure you have the disk in ^_^ 2. Make sure you have the right disk in ^_^; 3. Make sure the disk is in the right drive. 4. Check CD for scratches/dust/fingerprints. 5. Now, here's the problem I had...
A while ago, I've had an extra CD-ROM drive pop up on my computer for no apparent reason (Three were listed; I only have two) I'm guessing it had something to do about the Burner and it's Nero program. Hmph. Anyway, it was the first drive on the list. After coming here to find out what's the problem about the "Wrong Disk" I found out that FFVIII read from the first CD-ROM drive in line. So it dawned on me that FFVIII was trying to get the disk in this "phantom", non-existant CD-ROM drive. So I did a bit of fiddling around (which was stupid, since I had a vauge idea of what I was doing. If this could be your problem, contact someone in the know to fix it for you ^_^), and I eventually got the priority switched around. Now the game is fine. I hope this helps a few people with that same "Wrong Disk" problem. Now I can get a few of my other games to work as well. I thought I lost them forever ^_^;.
