As for what you've got with your crashing problem... Here're a few suggestions to it...

If your video card is made by nVidia, I'd suggest searching out a patch to get your card working properly.

You can also try using the FF8Config to change your graphics to "Software Renderer". This'll shift the work off of your video card, and onto your main processor, but given modern computers, it shouldn't hold you back.

Odd as it sounds, use CardMod to refine your Bite Bug, Red Bat, and Gayla cards. It's unknown why, but these cards seem to be behind an awful lot of glitches, and this may be one of them.

I also have a problem of crashing in the PC game, except mine occurs during the cut-scene of the missiles being launched to Balamb Garden, right after Squall and his party finish talking to Headmaster Cid, and are heading down to the MD level.

I tried all your suggestions (Video Card already in Graphics Renderer, used the Patches, Refined those three cards), and the game still encounters a problem, and says it must be closed.

If anyone has any idea at all, I would appreciate all the feedback I can get. Thanks a lot guys!

I'd suggest that you use the FF8Config to change to the "Software Renderer", or "Low Quality" for your video, or both. This has provided help for many.

Also, if you're using WindowsXP, try using the Compatibility Mode for Win98. If you're unfamiliar with it, I wrote a tip about it, so just check the Tips section.
