Because the person behind the screen could be anyone, and not just that, but you'll most likely never get to meet that person in real life. So it's best to keep relationships in real life rather than Maple. ;P

Pot is short for potion. :)

And as you probably know, a potion is what heals your HP/recovers your MP.

*Forgot to mention.

Potions can also do other stuff (Raise weapon attack, magic attack, accuracy, etc).
