Huge Letdown
|
I haven't read anyone else's review yet, and I'll be curious to see if anyone actually gets suckered into this game, and the reasons why. Like every other Trekker, and I'm a first generation fan from back in the sixties, I looked forward to this game. However, the letdown in this game comes almost from the first screen shot. Sure, it looks pretty. I'll give it that. But the gameplay is way too linear. "Click" Go to planet A. "Click" Destroy asteroid B. "Click" Destroy ateroid shard C. That's about it for being a "Captain". You have almost no choice in whatever action you can take. It's as bad play-wise as the old side-scrollers. With the asteroid or enemy ship constantly unmoving in the dead centre of your screen, there is no sense of movement at all. If you switch to external view, all you see is your ship, and not what you're shooting at. Capt. Picard looks realistic enough, at least until he opens his mouth. Then he's got the mouth movement of a South Park character. Worst of all, you can't even get out of the captain's chair. You're stuck to it like crazy glue. No Starfleet captain ever spent a whole battle just sitting on his butt. Where's the dramatic standing up and taking a few steps towards the viewscreen when facing a Romulan? Why not being able to move around like Elite Force? Great idea, but piss poor effort put into the actual gameplay.

You can take direct helm and tactical control with this game in the outside view! You only have to use your mouse alot on the bridge! That's why i use the outside view! |

You can't see what you are shooting at? Here is a tip, press the "C" key to change the view between seeing ahead or seeing the target. Its true that the story is pretty linear (besides that, its a good story, no?), but that's not the reason i bought this game. I love the graphics, I love the actions, I love to blow up other ships, I love to be out numbered & make it to the end, I love to watch the shields glowing when in combat, I love the people who put all they'v got to develop this game, I love Star Trek, should i go on? :) But you are right, if they could actually allow control of the away team like the windows 95 Star Trek TNG game, that would be great. Come on, this is a great game. Would you agree with me if i said that Elite Force sucks just because they have virtually no ships combat like Bridge commander? |

I was let down, too. I liked the Demo, but then I spent $50 on the actual game. Now I'm all for a challenge, but I can't get past E5M1...and I refuse to play it again until I find cheat codes b/c it's too impossible to play. Let's all thank Activision for taking our money! |

i'm slowly being let down by the game too. I think they should have done what the old wing commander games did when communicating with other races. That is to allow you to pick multiple responses and then flow the game based on those responses. It gets annoying have the first officer talk to every alien race, am I the captain or is she? |
