It kinda depends on games you want. You already have a decent system, but it would be helpful to know the clock speed of your CPU (you know, GHz). |

8800GT would be nice, but I think you're pretty good off. Just don't expect to be running Crysis on highest settings with zero lag. |

I'm currently using a PC with 2 x 512mb (1GB) RAM 3.0 ghz Pentium 4 processor 124mb GeForce 6600GT AGP graphics card 160GB hard driveI have another computer collecting dust in the corner of my room. 3.2 ghz AMD Athlon64 6400 Socket AM2 dual core 4 x 1024mb (4GB) DDR2 667Mhz RAM 384mb GeForce 8800 GS PCI-e graphics card 80GB hard drive (I'm scavenging another soon)When I have finished erm... "acquiring" Windows Vista and can be arsed, I'll set that one up and use it. Replace the scavenged parts from this one with cheaper ones and give it to my sister. |

bulletbill0: Your PC is decent enough to run most games out now, the only thing slightly holding it back would be the processor. You could probably boost your ram up a gig reasonably cheaply. I wouldn't recommend replacing the 8600gt with an 8800gt as the performance-gained compared to price just isn't worth it. |

Oops, I was talking to bulletbill in my last post. About Kyo's PC's, the PC's are a bit outdated in some areas like the CPU, but is good enough to play games, as long as they aren't too intense on the PC. |

k thx, and ya the 8800gt is a bit out of my reach price-wise I'd boost up the ram but most people say 4gb ram on a 32bit OS might not register all of it, and it's a bit overkill if the cpu isnt very good what would you suggest? |

Nothing wrong with your cpu, but faster is better in some cases if you're put off by mid-level performance. You can get a x2 6400 (6600?) for around 170 $ US. |

well I looked around and this is what I got AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400+ 2.3ghz (idk bout this) 3GB ram ddr2 800mhz nvidia 8800gts 320mb BIOSTAR NF61S-M2 TE AM2 mobo Rosewill Stallion 450w psu Windows XP home w/ SP2 total price (w/ rebates) = $744.88 better? and to kyo: I probably won't bring ram up to 4 gigs because of the 32-bit OS not reading all 4gb |

Only curious, why wouldn't you just drop in a 'high-end' cpu? The 4200 you have hardly begins to compliment the 8600 that you have there already. |

well with an 8800gt then i'm definitely not gonna be able to get a quad core, so maybe just a 5000+ $800 budget |

I'm not sure that I understand you there. What I meant is to drop in a much faster cpu in the rig that you now have. Only that. An AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz is a truly massive upgrade for you, and only 162 $ at newegg. If you stop at a 4400, all the other you spend on it isn't worth the money, and I really, seriously doubt there'll be an 800 $ increase in performance over your last machine. |
