Here are the rules for Pointless. If you do not wish to read over them just scope off first couple words in each paragraph and you should understand the rules.
These are the main rules, we might point out that not all are here as there are some GT regulations that must be followed as well and others not included, but these should give you an idea...
First, a rule that many use [pointless] as a jumping board;
Usage of Unmoderated and Dead forums; Not permitted to be advertised in Pointless in any shape or form. Continued abuse of posting forum advertising will result in the appropriate moderator actions. Although many forums have no moderators, if you break the rules in them it can result in actions outside of a moderator's control like Global Bans by the Administrators. If a forum was meant to be popular it will be in time. Also, I have no involvement in the Moderator hiring process. To make a suggestion for the forum to appear on the next installment of the QuickLinks, visit [requests]. For your questions about Mod hiring, go to Mod Q&As, right next to GT Help.
Inability to post; If you cannot post and/or reply to messages, this means there is either a glitch going on or you have been name or IP banned from the forum. So, doesn’t always mean that the moderator of Pointless, Lord Denida(he) banned you, it could just be due to a glitch. During GT wide glitches, no one can post, so you should just wait it out or post in [complaints] that you can’t post in Pointless or another forum. However, most problems regarding people that cant post revolve around AOL (as well as Compuserve, MSN, and others). AOL has the kinky structure of banning people from posting in particular forums at various times. If you have done nothing wrong and cant post but have AOL, simply disconnect from the Internet and connect back. Rarely, it has to do with your web browser. Sometimes IE (Internet Explorer) interferes with you being able to post as well (depending on your ISP and how your Internet connection is set up). To correct this, go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and download the latest version of IE or go to http://www.netscape.com and download the latpeni sversion of Netscape. If you don't have IE or Netscape, then you should try downloading those from http://www.download.com installing the programs and using those from now on. Or you can get rid of IE altogether and get Mozilla Firefox(http://www.mozilla.org/). IF this doesn’t solve your problem, go to [complaints].
Rules:
*Regarding Clubs; A GameTalk club is allowed AS LONG AS NO individual is singled out, harassed, or made fun of. They may not be used as an "escapade" in dead or unmoderated forums. Also, the club must have a purpose and in MOST cases, be related to the game or theme of that forum. Even with the creation of a club, all GT rules apply. Failure to cooperate will result in the club being barred from the forum it was intended for, rather by Moderator(s) of that forum or Administrators as need be.
*Spamming; Do not post the same thing over and over again in posts or replies, repeating the same posts again and again…That is spamming and is not allowed at [pointless]. The moderators of GT take spamming serious and will take the necessary actions to prevent it. Severe spam almost always will result in an IP ban the first time to avoid the forum being flooded and the users greatly affected.
*Blank posts and replies; Do not make threads or post replies that have no messages in them or titled for them. It's spam and takes up server space for no reason. So please refrain from it. If continued, the appropriate actions will be taken.
*Stretching; Stretching is making a post extend vertically or horizontally so much that it changes the layout of the forum page. It will not be tolerated and you will be banned if it continues. It makes it more difficult to monitor the forum and also is very annoying for the visitors.
*Rules against enticing or teaching how to bypass rules; We ask that you NOT teach or indicate how to get past a site glitch in order to break rules. It's a problem to GameTalk, so it will not be tolerated here. Posts with such "teaching" or "indications" will be tagged. Continued abuse will result in a ban.
*Inappropriate Content and Swearing; Any type of swearing regardless of what you think or believe is prohibited to be posted here at GameTalk. It's not allowed in any circumstance and not even moderators should do so (as they would be setting a bad example). No type of getting by including using *** is allowed either. Most cussing is used in the wrong way and due to the privilege being abused, it will not be tolerated. This includes rude behavior, unwanted approaches and calling out and anything that involves intimate behavior. Cybering will surely get you in trouble. Inappropriate content will also not be allowed here at Pointless. You will have your posts deleted and bannment types will follow, going from least severe to very severe. One recent exception has been made with the word "WTF". It's a very commonly used word and result in unnecessary bans if not allowed.
*Cybering; Is another name for inappropriate physical and intimate acts on the internet. It's not appropriate for all users on the site and will not be tolerated. As in the real world, it's something you do in the privacy of your own computer or self, not publicly, even online. You will have your posts immediately deleted if suspected, warned, and in further continuations, banned.
*Inappropriate names or blank names; Blank names are not allowed as they are only available due to a glitch so it won't be allowed to misuse it. Inappropriate names are those that include swearing, intimate nature, and such are not allowed. Please choose a name that reflects what you want that is appropriate for all ages. Severe inappropriate names are banned on sight.
*Flaming and Racist slander; Flaming and racist attacks are attacks on an individual or group for discriminatory reasons(including one's gender, religion, or race). They will not be allowed under any circumstances as GameTalk does not promote such activity. It is a serious issue, and failure to cooperate will result in action against you by the moderators of the forum.
*Roms and illegal activities: Bc of copyright laws, roms are illegal and therefore not allowed at GT. Basically, roms are illegal software of copied video games (especially handheld games) that are distributed illegally over the internet. You are not allowed to disclose information on where to download them or whether to sell/share them including through email. This includes other illegal information like product keys for PC games and the likes. Threads regarding these type of posts will be deleted on sight. You will be warned and further violations of this rule will lead to you being banned.
*Advertising; Advertising your site or any other that is not associated with Mike Pooler's GameTalk or a video game is strictly prohibited. GT has enough trouble trying to promote itself without carrying another site's weight on its shoulders. Also, advertising sites that contain swearing or inappropriate material is also prohibited, even if it's game related. Advertising sites that do not fall underneath any of the 2 before mentioned categories is an offense. First time a simple thread deletion, and it gets worse from there on future offenses.
*Impersonations; Impersonating is switching characters, letters or symbols to appear as someone else. It leads to mass confusion and also negative feelings towards the impersonator. You will get into serious trouble if you are caught doing it. Take it seriously as you wouldn't want someone impersonating you. In addition, HTML impersonations are very common. Users use html to impersonate you. Just ignore them until Moderators take care of it. It could help if you made good passwords and use names that aren't easily mistaken for one letter or the other.
*Popularity/ Hate/ Inappropriate Polls; Polls which involve discriminating against another individual is strictly against the rules here at Pointless. They cause problems between friends, make many feel looked upon, and unfairly classify people into categories in which they do not belong. Also, polls that contain inappropriate subjects in the title or inappropriate choices will be removed upon sight. Polls that stretch the page or contain any other subject that is not suitable for people of all ages is not allowed and will be removed. Continued offenses will be dealt with by the moderators of the forum if it continues after that.
*Personal information: Any personal information you give out is at your own risk! Regarding email and sn's, please take care to remember that we are not responsible for any personal information that you decide to give out on the forums. They are public and hence (ANYONE) can see them, including those that you wouldn't want to know that information. There is a real threat to you giving out private information so do take care when you post or reply to people. Remember, most people on the internet you do not personally know regardless of what they say or do. Revealing someone's personal information without their consent still makes you liable. Also, phone number and address postings will be removed immediately, regardless.
*Illegal usage of the TGT icons that are NOT free to use by non TGT and mod members: TGT icons are only for use by Moderators and TGT members. We don't encourage others to use the icons and will typically remove them immediately. The icons are made for mods and TGT members as a special feature to those who paid to support gametalk and therefore it is not allowed to use any of TGT's features unless you are a paid member. Violation of this rule will result in deletion and repeated offenses in possible bans.
If you need to contact me for any further questions of bans or the likes I can be reached at denidagmail.com, but the rest of my contact info can be found at my mod profile if need be.
Just remember to enjoy Pointless but be mindful of the rules!
