What are your top ten (or more, or less) favourite Pokemon?
|
A difficult ask, I know, but it should be a fun one :) ------------------------------ #10: PidgeotThe first - and in my opinion, best - of the "three poke evolution line" birds. The likes of Swellow and Staraptor really don't cut it for me: Pidgeot is just miles cooler. Right? #9: SuicuneThe star of Crystal, and Articuno's hier. Really good looking poke, with the added ability to liquefy on demand. Learning Bubble AND Aurora Beam at low levels also helps :P #8: Umbreon Of all the Eeveelutions, only two make my list. Espeon just missed out - but at the end of the day, Umbreon's quiet confidence is more alluring. A defensive powerhouse. #7: DarkraiYes, an uber - but a damn cool one, and I won't take that back :P The only DP poke on my list. #6: WeezingMy favourite Rocket pokemon from the old anime, Weezing had real personality, and a mean Sludge attack :P And hey, what do you know - it can actually hold its own in battle in the RPG arena, too. Unless it's fighting in Koga's Gym, in which case it's using Explosion in your face. Crap. #5: ArticunoThe reward for traipsing schizophrenically around the Seafoam Islands, dropping rocks and falling through weird random holes in some crazed attempt to get the damn current to stop... Good times, RBY, good times ¬¬ #4: Vaporeon Hands down the best Eeveelution, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise :P Vapy and I go way back, to my very first team on Blue Version. Miles of HP, the "Bubblejet" moniker and a solid movepool, Vaporeon is the epitome of the awesome water-type Pokemon. Of which there are many, including... #3: MiloticNow, I usually don't judge Pokemon based solely on their looks... but Milotic is simply stunning. Elegant and powerful - and well worth the effort of beauty-training the paper-bag-worthy Feebas, Milotic is (I dare to say) the best looking Pokemon yet designed. #2: DragonairAs you may have already figured from my name, I happen to rate Dragonair pretty highly. Evolving into the original (and IMO best) demi-uber in Dragonite, Dragonair does what a middle-stage evolution should: be distinctive. So many middle pokes are ultimately forgettable - but Darg's little orb and Roman feather-ears make him memorable. #1: AlakazamFrom the moment I saw the Saffron City Gym episode of the Kanto anime, Kadabra (and, by correlation, 'Zam) became my ultimate-all-time-foreverandever favourite Pokemon. Spoons? Telekinesis? Who wouldn't want that degree of power? Oh, and that 5000 point IQ would certainly come in handy :D Despite a downgrading in DP from the physical/special attack redefinition, Alakazam remains a staple on any of my teams. Fear and revere, folks :P ------------------------------ Summary: #1: Alakazam #2: Dragonair #3: Milotic #4: Vaporeon #5: Articuno #6: Weezing #7: Darkrai #8: Umbreon #9: Suicune #10: Pidgeot So, that's my top ten. Honourable mentions go to Gengar, Zapdos and Gyarados - very close misses. I certainly don't expect any of you to agree with me, so get thinking and send in your own top tens. Or fewer, if you only care for four or five :P

10) Mewtwo - Mewtwo is on the list mostly because of the first movie (the only good one, I might add) and the aura of mystique that he provided in the original games. There was just something creepy about wandering around that abandoned lab, reading little snippets of journals about genetic experimentation... and there being to people left. 9) Ampharos - I like this one mstly because he was the first "number 1" pokemon card I got. I now know that the cards are released alphabetically, but I didn't then and was really happy to fine something so "exeptionally" rare. 8) Dragonair - It's damn pretty. Sue me. 7) Milotic - see above. I briefly considdered using one on my team back in R/S/E, but I ended up using Kingdra instead. I have to say, I made the right choice. 6) Vaporeon - I've always liked Vaporeon. It really doesn't get more adorable than that. I've never used one, but when i was young, I always thought to myself "If Pokemon were real, I'd want a Vaporeon." I'm still said that the only plushies they make of them are those irksome "Pokedoll" versions... 5) Ho-oh - Gold version was my first game, and is still my favorite to this day. Ho-oh... there's just something so mystical about it. (or there was in those days, at least) waltzing around Tin Tower, hunting for this Pokemon from ancient legend... If this were a list of favore Pokemon moments, that would be my number 1. 4) Latias - For years, me and my cousin got opposite versions. I had Gold, he had Silver; I had Red, he had Blue. When the time finally came for the GBA games, we agreed month in advance that I'd get Sapphire. At first I was sad when I couldn't get Latios, but being forced into using Latias showed me just how great a Pokemon it could be. Good stats, very high speed, can learn very solid TMs. It's also 110% more adorable than its brother. 3) Raikou - For years, i could never catch this thing on Gold version. I cought Suicune, and eventually I traded for Entai. But Raikou Eluded me. Back then I was collecting the cards (of course) and my personal goal was to get one of every Legendary. Raikou was the last one I needed. In the end, I cought him in-game, and got him on card. This has left me with great respect for Raikou. 2) Mew - I came in to Pokemon during the hype around the first movie, thus, Mew was formost in my mind. There's still a level of charm to it - it's still the rarest Pokemon ever. and really bloody cute. 1) Espeon - the perfect blend of power, awesome, beauty, and cuteness. What can I say, she's got it all, Espeon does. Again, a Pokemon I've never really used, but have always enjoyed. It's another Pokemon that goes beyond "cool" and into "I wish this were real." It's also the only non-uber psychic that measures up to Alakazam - from what I remember, they're about even stat-wise. |

Your layout is much better than mine, DF, I shouldn't have bothered with the bullets :( I agree with you about Espeon. A really well designed poke - but it always annoyed me slightly that Game Freak gave her a slightly rubbish movepool. Also agree re: Mewtwo. On sentimentality alone, he surpasses Darkrai in my books - but there was something about his ability to communicate in English in the movie that unnerved me a bit :P I was also considering including Charmeleon, mony. In hindsight, I didn't include /any/ starter pokes or their evolutions, which surprised even me I guess. :o |

10. Bulbasaur. No real reason. It was my first shiny Pokemon (and my only), and it's the first numbered. And it's not just Grass, but Poison as well. 9. Celebi. Similar to Mew, which I talk about below, Celebi is somewhat original and an amazing Pokemon. It's also one of the only legendary Grass-type, which is also amazing. Time travel also makes it awesome. 8. Gallade. A psychic swordsman. (And yes, I can say swordsman because Gallade are always male.) It's just a sweet Pokemon. 7. Plusle. I have a respect for Plusle, it has always been the most amazing aid during my beginning Hoenn training, and makes up for the few things Swampert, my starter, lacks. I just like this one, no real amazing reason. 6. Latias. It's a standard Dragon, but so much different from the rest in that it's Psychic, doesn't focus on pure power, and is probably one of the most intelligent Pokemon out there. (Apart from Alakazam's 5000 point IQ) If you train it right, Latias is unstoppable, but at the same time it's just so serene and gracefull... 5. Mew. It may be one of the elite, but it's just so well made and so original (literally, the pre-evolution of all Pokemon) that you can't help loving it. 4. Dragonite. As Dragonair said it's one of the first sub-epic Pokemon, not to mention just is epic in general. It can travel around the world in 18 hours, or so I've heard, and it's an altogether amazing Pokemon. 3. Umbreon. Such an unusual Pokemon. One of the few pure Dark types, it's got superb Defense capabilities despite the fact that it's just a cute little feline, and I just love it. 2. Swampert. Swampert's a freakin sweet Pokemon, water-type but resistant to electricity, nothing spectacular but almost no weak points. All around awesome, and my favorite starter. 1. I've always loved Jirachi for some strange reason. There's just something about that Pokemon that I can't explain. It's my favorite, that's all I know. So there you have it. |

10-Articuno-First time I ever lost a match was when I fought Articuno. Snorelax had taught me to save my game however, and it became my first ever legendary. 9-Gyradose-Magicarp was annoying. I bought it, only to kick myself since I later found I could have caught it anywhere there's water. Its annoying call was in three syllables, just like its name and splash did nothing. I was naturally going to toss it but person in the game said to never drop a Pokemon, no matter how weak it was. So I found away to level up Magicarp, eventually it learned tackle. Still couldn't fight for anything but it surprised me when it actually won against a biker's grimer. And then it happened. Gyradose destroyed the rest of his team. Its call was awesome now. Gy-ra-dose. I gave it HM strength just so I could hear the call more. Not to mention its the only "shiny" most people ever get. 8-Seviper-People said it was bad to use poison tail and poison fang at once, but I didn't really care. At first I though Se-Viper looked Stupid, but I though it was cool to see that both ends of it were deadly. And I really like snakes. 7-Haunter-Its annoying to me when the second stage looks several times better than the final. Those are the ones who should get alternate evolutions in my opinion, not Tangela and Lickitung. Screw balance, let the sucks keep stinkin up their spots on the Pokedex. Being a trade only, I had an excuse to leave Haunter as it was. Ghastly and haunter actually attack people in the game too, evidence they can do even more than their large, toxic ghostly move pool lets them. 6-Raticate-Nobody likes them cause their team Rocket's Pokemon of choice but I do. Its nice to see how much having badges does for you pokemon too when my Rattata is able to beat my enemie's Raticate who were at equal and higher levels, and so I feels really powerful when I get a Raticate of my own. For a real long time it was the only Pokemon to know Hyperfang too. 5-Primeape-I really like all fighting types, except Breloom. The pig monkey is in this slot, but I could have put in Hitmon Chan, Hitmon Top, or Machamp too. Even Heracross. Primeape was the first to come to mind though. 4-Torterra-The most difficult to decide, but I figured someone from Diamond and Pearl should be on the list. And one of the things I did like about the new Pokemon were the starters. The only ones as good as the original starters, in my opinion. 3-Scizor-Do I even need a reason? At first I would have liked an evolution that looked more like Syther did, but after having this thing around I forget about it. Scizor is simply to sleek and does major damage in Super Smash Bros Melee. I think it could be a decent playable character. 2-Mew-So rare, its most call it a mirage, and I actually caught one! All Pokemon should have been available in the game but had one extremely tough one to get like Mew. It can learn all Tms and Hms and it can transform. 1-Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur-Its number one on the dex, my first Pokemon. May have a ton of weaknesses but Razor Leaf kicks out critical, Solar Beam beats the crap out of Whirlpool, Hydropump, Firespin, and Heatwave. Or Bulbasaur can be a defensive tank, with sleep, toxic, stun spore, synthesis and/or leech seed. Great for catching and killing and Gym Leaders. Frenzy Plant looks better than the other hyper beams too. Now if only it had more powerful poison moves... can' catch me |

10. Altaria. This is my favorite flying type. With the mix of flying/dragon moves... seriously rocks. 9.Empoleon. A seriously cool mixture there: Water, flying, steel. The monkey is cute yes... but Empoleon is great. 8. Feebas. Why you ask? Because they made it so ridiculously hard to find. That made finding, and catching it, all the sweeter. 7. Cacturn. I love this Pokémon. It is my fav grass type. I loev the grass/dark mix. 6. Golem. Has been one of my favs since the original RBY days. I usually have one on my lineup. 5. The Latis. The Latis are just plain cool. 4. Numel. I feel in love with Numels the first time I ran across one. The first one I ever caught I named "Grrrr", because it used grwol on me... lol 3. Charmander. I didn't fall into all the 'hype' over Charizard. Charmander was my cup of tea. 2. Mew. So cute. So pink. So powerful. 1. Squirtle! All who know me, know of my affection for Squirtle. He is my favorite, and shall always be. |
