Graphics - FFX Though FFXII has a 5 year advantage over FFX, I have to say that graphics in FFX are actually nicer. The FMVs, especially are stunning. The destruction of dream zanarkand, the start of the blitzball game, they are all much better and memorable than any scene in FFX. As for the actual game, there isn't much difference in the graphics. Gamplay - FFXII I have to say FFXII wins this, because maybe I am just really sick of the random encounters system after playing so many FFs with this system. Being able to see your enemies is much better and more realistic. However, gambits does make the game too easy as you can just let them do the jobs, even in boss battles. Music - FFX No doubt, FFX is better in this component, there are some really memorable music that blends with the environment you are in. Can't say the same for FFXII. FFXII made me realise how important music is to a game, and how good Nobue Uematsu really is. Sound acting, I have to say is pretty similar in both games. Plot/Characters - FFX FFX wins this one hands down. It has a really original storyline and actually made me want to continue to play the game to see how the story unfolds. That is an indication of how good the story is. And the characters are pretty likable. Auron, the mysterious character who knows more than he is willing to tell. Yuna, a very determined summoner, willing to sacrifice herself for the people. Rikku, a cheerful girl that makes the game a lot more interesting. Oh, and the love story was a big plus as well. FFXII has a really cliched storyline. Rebels against the mighty evil empire. And the characters are just downright boring. Except for Balthier, the others are just forgettable. Basch started out like an Auron-type character, but fades away after that. Nothing special about Fran except your knowledge of mist. I remember Ashe mostly for her constantly seeing images of her dead husband. Penelo is there for no purpose, taking her away makes no difference. And vaan has to be the worst main character. I thought Tidus was kind of whiny, but vaan is worse in that he isn't even important, it doesn't make a difference if he isn't present. I would say FFXII has a story with no direction. You just go from dungeons to dungeons, spending hours in each to get to the end to get items ranging from dusk shards, swords to destroy nethicites, swords to cut nethicites and so on. I believe the part that sums it up for FFXII is in Giruvegan. An enemy asks the party to go there and they oblige, and then they find that the enemy is not there yet. Then Ashe 'hallucinates' again for the umpteenth time, sees her dead husband again... and the rest follows her and so they decide to go into the dungeon. I don't even know what the point is in this game most of the time. You just run around in dungeons. And the boss battles. FFXII's bosses seem to be predominantly monsters that add nothing to the storyline. And the worst thing is, the bosses have a fondness for talking pompously. "Hark! Ivalice hails her true Dynast king! His time is nigh!" "A trial for Ashelia b'nargin Damalsca!" That makes you want to shut them up. And the final boss, well, the truth is, the game doesn't even tell you much about him, then you have to fight him, whereas, in FFX, you know Seymour and Sin throughout the game. |

I'm probably biased, but I suppose there's no helping that. FFX was my first FF game, and...well, I could go on and on about that, but simply put, it's my favorite game of all time. FFXII is very good, though...but comes up a little short in some areas, such as those listed above. The plot is either forgotten at times or too convulated to perfectly follow, in my opinion. And in terms of character developement, none of the main characters are nearly as memorable as those in FFX, and the focus shifts away from Vaan a few hours into the game. FFX gives everyone a shot in the limelight. I would continue, but the above poster summed up most of my points well enough. I choose FFX. |

Yes it was a success in my quest for Valefor Jm.. I was wined, dined, and showered with gifts by many hyper energetic Hula Dancing Girls, they needed to be tamed down. Thankfully i had my "Long Sword" (never leave home without it :P) used a few "Elixers" here and there, used Shells for protection "Aloha" heh. Salutes "Deospawnn". |

I am truly sorry, FFXII was given such a large, beautiful world, to such a lame, boring, rushed, storyline and characters. The biggest thing, that sets FFX and FFXII apart, is the fact, that there is no emotional atachment with the game. An example: If Vaan would to be suddenly crushed by a boulder half way through the game, and Ashe eaten by a very angry Malboro, and both replaced by Jim and Sally, I would blink, and keep on playing. If Tidus ans Yuna died half way through the game, I would be utterly outraged, have a seizure, and be very upset (ok, a bit over dramatic there). So yes, while they made FFXII simply breathtaking in terms of the world, I simply enjoy playing with any FFX character so much more.... |

I enjoyed FFXII its a good game, im currently doing a more in depth 2nd playthrough, well i say that, the problem is, i haven't picked up the joypad and played it for around 5 weeks, I tend to loose interest, were-as with previous ff's 7//8//9 and FFX i played them every chance i got. To me it dosen't feel like a Final Fantasy game. Alot say it has a Star Wars feel to it. and as FF13 and FF13 versus are on the Horizon, the video footages are excellent and they look awesome games, but the gameplay has to work.. I dont know, maybe its just me, or maybe im missing Nobuo Uematsu and his music, his music to me was also important. |

I played both of these games a few months apart from each other (FFXII being played first) and I think Starry Messenger hit the nail on the head with that first reply. I completely agree with it. |
