Concerning the PS3
|
Greetings(Nerdling style) All through the course of my gaming experiences, I started out with the Gameboy Color to N64 to Xbox 1 and PS2 to DS to Xbox 360. Anyway I hate fanboys and etc. but since I've had the PS2 I have really enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid Series. But when the time came to chose a next generation system I chose the 360, mainly because it had more games that suited my interest. But with the upcoming fourth game in the series, I find my self in a difficult situation. I enjoyed the series before, but I can't see myself buying a new console for one A-List title. I'm a very weird in ways, such as I lay in bed wondering if I made the right decision choosing what I did. But with the summer coming up, I'm trying to decide if I should buy the PS3. If I buy a new console for 1 new game, I could've just cut my loses and buy more for the 360 or DS or PC. I really don't want to sound like I'm boycotting Sony, where as that's the complete opposite. I looked into a few more exclusives for the PS3, and none of them really appealed to me. The only one that looked somewhat decent was Drake's Fortune. A lot of games that come out for PS3 also come out for the 360 aswell. Haze keeps being put off, that I've lost all interest in it and Grand Turismo looks okay, but even then there are a few better titles for 360. So from my viewpoint, would you buy a 400 dollar console for one game? I really don't want to sound biased but that's what I pretty much narrowed it down to.

Well...I wouldn't pay $400 for one game, and your concerns are perfectly legitimate. Question I would like to pose to you, however...what games on the PS2 did you enjoy that the Xbox didn't have? We'll start from there, and from your response I'll help you a bit more. |

Personal favorites such as "God of War," "Ratchet and Clank" A few of the FF games, and some interest in Killzone, but not so much. Like I enjoyed it on one play through, and after that I got bored. I do like Socom, but the Multiplayer for me left something to be desired. |

So you do have games other than MGS4 that would interest you on the PS3. Looks like about...somewhere around 5, not including MGS. I think, depending on how involved of a gamer you are, that would be enough to jutify the price. However I do not know how interested in the PS3 you are. Here's some other games I figure I'd throw out: Shadow of the Colossus: that team is making a PS3 game, as well.Eight Days sounds like it could possibly be very good. How about Level 5 (Dark Cloud) RPGs? They're currently in the process of developing a new RPG for the PS3 called White Knight Chronicles. Also, PS3 games out now you should consider: Warhawk is great fun, don't know if you've played it or not, but besides Resistance and Call of Duty 4, it's the best multiplayer the platform has to offer.Resistance, is another series I think you should consider. It's made by the same guys who did Ratchet and Clank, and it's a solid game. Also has a sequel coming out this November. Then there's PS3 features like bluray, if you're interested in that, or have a future potential interest in it. I'd say go for it, but again, it all depends on just how much you spend on games, both money and time-wise, which is proportional to the amount of capabilities and games the PS3 has that interest you. |

It seems like Bluray is such big deal, but honestly I watch movies for the storyline and acting. I play video games for the hi def interactivity/storyline. But that's beside the point. I actully rented Shadow of the Colossus and ended up giving it a "Meh" reaction. Eight days does look intriguing, but Dark Cloud was too much of trying to be one thing to the point where I'd try to get into it and quickly fail. Warhawk is an extremely good game, and everytime I visit a friend who has a PS3, I demand we play it, and if he doesn't own it then we rent it. If it comes down to MGS4 being game of the year and etc. I guess I'll just interact with people(Ick) and tell them to buy it, and then tell them to gtfo and let me play myself. Even if it's their basement. :D |

Yeah...honestly I don't see the point in any disc media beyond DVD. Upscaled to 1080p DVDs look superb, and I don't see the need to replace the entire medium for it. I do see bluray as an advantage for the PS3, but for games only. I think getting rid of DVD is a mistake, just a money-making gimmick. Yeah, Shadow of the Colossus is a hit or miss kind of game. I personally loved it (one of my favorite PS2 games), but I can see where others wouldn't. Dark Cloud I never really got into, wasn't impressed much by it. Have you played Warhawk with the Shattered Mirror expansion? Oh good god that's amazing. The first expansion was meh...but the second is amazing. The new map from it is pure genius, IMO. Unlike the factory night level... Yeah, MGS4, I doubt will make GotY, that'll probably go to GTA4 (though I'm sure another game this year will deserve it more but...eh). Regardless, MGS4 is going to be a must play. Whether you buy a PS3 or not...play that game lol. |
