Chapter 1: In Which We Find Our Heroine Stuck Behind a Sign-up Desk
Sy never was a moaner, but her fuming over the fact that she has to stay up till 4:00 a.m. is natural. She was told that “interesting” people come out at night, which she imagined several scenarios on that word alone. She knows, like everyone else does, that people more misfortunate than her are suffering right now, but that’s still no reason, in her opinion, to stop complaining about it. In fact, she schedules a time when she spouts out every little thing that angered her such as a broken shoe lace or an emo kid, anything that’s worth her time to carp about. If she can’t vent then what’s the point of having annoying things happen to her in the first place? She folds her arms, uncomfortable.
My feet itch, and I have to pee.
She can’t leave. Even if she yelled at Nicolae ((picture of Nico http://tinyurl.com/2w8u87)), the tall man with black wings standing one floor above her, to come down, he wouldn’t be too helpful since the people need their paperwork and Nico is in no position to look at paperwork. Must be nice being blind, she thought, all you have to do is listen to stuff and not look at people. I wonder what’s going on in that head of his…
She snickers at her ACTUALLY caring what Nico thinks. Now with thoughts of Nico aside, she wonders who would sign up for the hunt. They better not be emo, she thought, or insane. Sy had little patience to deal with schizophrenic, blood sucking, want-to-kill-whomever-he/she-could-find, sad, pouty, the world-is-black types. Unfortunately the sign-ups don’t guarantee that these people won’t be these things, and if they happen to be people like that, she’d have to grin and bear it, and lovingly beat them to a pulp if they try anything funny.
Of course she was given specific instructions not to disclose what Furrigibles are until after the orientation meeting after six people applied. Then she’d have to warn them about the environmental maniacs, the cult obsessives, and other elements that may hamper the project.
She’s also going to be acting as leader in this hunt, another thing to grumble about. Sy is nineteen years old, four years after her friends got sucked into the Wind’s Diary. She’s older now, not as skinny, but now she has a slender look to her, that may catch the eyes of some guys, until she opens her choleric mouth ((pic: http://tinyurl.com/32bemj)). Her friends in question, thankfully, returned in one piece to the great relief of Sy. That’s the second time someone got sucked into my book, I’m gonna have to detain that thing or something. That’s not important right now. She first needs to get through the night without falling asleep or…
“Nico watch the dang desk!”
“Miss Hawkins, you know perfectly well that I can’t ‘watch’—“
“You know what I mean! I gotta go to the frickin’ john!” Sy cut off his dull voice.
She zipped out of her seat and down the rope ladder, not caring if anyone else came tonight. It’s only going to be a few minutes anyway.
Hoseki Forest, closely means “treasured forest,” carries many mysteries in its snow-speckled trees surrounding a central village raised ten stories from the ground. Thick as modern-day buildings and challenging in height, the trees display a pure white vision, with opal leaves decorating the wide and complex branches. This forest lies north of the Xenith region, the last of the magical forests in the continent of Matnook. Written on one of the trees, the largest and grandest, was this:
Caring for those who should be cared for.
Letting inside those who cry sanctuary.
A connection to her sister.
Always and forever sacred.
Hoseki Forest
The village is layered with huts and ladders, the support floors hugging the Hosekian trees are now constructed with hard stone that resembles masonry wasp nests. There are fifty floors respectfully. Though it would take painstaking effort to describe each floor, for concision’s sake one would be mentioned.
The 49th floor is where the sign-up table resides, with the grousing Sy as its sole inhabitant, at least until she comes back. The other floors spread at a greater area, but this particular floor only took one tree for support and is sufficient size and support is enough for at least ten people. In fact, a Fire Marshall sign is hung at the sustaining tree with the capacity limit of 10 people.
Hoseki Forest is a popular tourist therapy to those who visited the website and took the test. Sy found Hoseki Forest on accident, she didn’t need to take a test, but she heard that people had to either play a complicated or very relaxing game to get here. A nervous fellow once said he went through internet hell, but the guy looked like he’d be clawing walls over a cute kitten, so she paid no mind to it. If people burn the letters, she heard that the fire gives off magical directions for the game. She doesn’t know how that works, she heard the situation could vary from person to person. After they take a boat or plane with the directions to the continent of Matnook, the captain would be notified by radio where the port is located. After which the entries would be escorted to the Treetop Village since anyone without a guide would instantly be lost due to the Forest’s Magical field. The guides themselves have white hoods shadowing their faces. No need really, they just wanted to look cool and mysterious.
((if it’s not obvious, this post is open to all, and don’t be discouraged if you think you have to ask to get in, just jump in.
pokes the word “open”* and the website is a hoax so if you’re wondering why you can’t get to the website, I made it up. The point is you make up your own test, you can make it as easy or as hard as you want. This post will end when I get sufficient amount of people then I'll close it. I could make it just a sign-up post, but I dun' wanna!! :P))
