Hmmmm... I had not considered that they may have flavor abounding... But the real question here is "Did God create fingernails or did fingernails create God?" Did I create this post or did this post create me? |

I was once a Christian and believed in a virgin birth and a global flood and all that crap. Then something amazing happened. I graduated the 7th grade. (That's one year behind Bill Maher; he lost faith in 6th grade). |

Pathetic that you have to attack someone else who thinks differently from you. It would be boring if we all think the same way. And if being part of a group makes one an idiot, then aren't we all idiots then??? |

I attack to convert? I attack to attack, because attacking is less boring than respecting everyone elses belief; unless of course that belief is so boring that you can't even get an entertaining debate out of it. No, despite what Grandma, preschool teachers, and KCET tells us, there is such a thing as a stupid question, there are idiotic beleifs, and there are even more idiotic people who believe the idiotic beliefs. The fact that no one has the right answers doesn't make the wrong answer right, or even ok. It just makes you feel better about it. And I am here to make you feel worse. Think of me as the antithesis to apathy. Sloth is a deadly sin, right? |

Like what? Getting drunk? Having sex? Reading a book? Going to the movies? Watching a movie? Playign a video game? Playing a non-video game? Hang out with friends? Go to the park? Work out? Go to the beach? Smoking weed? Put myself on uppers? Watching porn? Harrassing strangers? Going to a party? Playing a sport? Karate? Boxing? Acrobatics? School? Study an interesting subject? Go out for a drive? Meditate? Argue about God? With the advent of portable internet, the opportunity cost of posting on an insignificant forum is very low. |

Christianity is boring... Christianity is not here for your entertainment, and more to the point neither are the forum goers here. Being enlightened to the existance of God or the lack therof does not make one a better debater. And I still think that people who go out of their way to bash a specific religion (like the one they used to believe in) is an immature backlash against a faith that they feel foolish for ever having belief for in the first place. For example, most young people on here who were Christians but now have no belief in the religion are most likely to bash Christianity exclusively. I am sure that you have witnessed this as well. |

I see Christianity as fiction; for fair reasons. As the purpose of fiction, besides the obvious didactic purpose, is to entertain - and since I also discard the moral didactics as a system of insipid and outdated social control - all that is left is the entertainment. I am not interested in being a good debater, merely the satisfaction of good debate, independant on wins and losses: not so much from encountering facts which I have never heard before, but from experiencing trains of thought which I have never considered beforel which the god debate previously offered. Christianity has now exhausted my interest, and has proven to be, like years of drunken inproductivity: a waste of my time. So I recoil against the inane religion and believers thereof in spite and vengeful anger, and annoyance, before I move on. Bottled up resentment does me no good; so what healthier an endevour than to vent upon stubborn idiots, who, due to unparalleled inanity, remain impervious to any personal, logical, or inappropriate attack that I launch? |

As the purpose of fiction, besides the obvious didactic purpose, is to entertain - and since I also discard the moral didactics as a system of insipid and outdated social control - all that is left is the entertainment. A belief system cannot be described as 'fiction'. The religious texts can, and so can the oral stories (does Christianity even have any of those?). However you cannot describe a practice as false. Convoluted and needless perhaps, but not false. The actual purpose of Christianity, if it was indeed created by people who truly believed in the message they were spreading, is to get into the afterlife. I see little entertainment in that purpose whether it is true or false. As a side note, if religion was created by people who did not believe in the faith and wanted to control the masses, well then the creater of Christianity was a complete genius who would have never known the scope of his own success. I am not interested in being a good debater, merely the satisfaction of good debate, independant on wins and losses: not so much from encountering facts which I have never heard before, but from experiencing trains of thought which I have never considered beforel which the god debate previously offered. My opinion on the existance of God is very similar to yours and though it has not changed at all for several years the debate never gets old to me. It is a shame if the discussion is no longer interesting to you. How is discussion a waste of time? Why do you resent Christianity? And why launch inappropriate attacks against it if doing so will make little difference in the belief of others than using intelligent debate instead? The 'winning' of an argument is not dependent on whether or not you convert others to your own opinion. But then, you said that you do not care about winning. I do. But that will never be as important as constructing a good argument to begin with. It just so happens that doing so usually secures victory for you. |

Convoluted and needless perhaps, but not false. The actual purpose of Christianity, if it was indeed created by people who truly believed in the message they were spreading, is to get into the afterlife. I see little entertainment in that purpose whether it is true or false. Bah, mere semantics. Seperating the practice from the principle. You cannot describe a practice as false... True, but morbidly beyond the argument itself. There is no practice without principle. But principles can be misguided, and ideas which these principles are rooted at can indeed, be false. You are basically saying, that because I merely pierced the root, it cannot be said that I assailed the tree. Because the idea is fictional, all practice subsequently associated with is useful, only as entertainment. Perhaps not the original purpose, however the original purpose (the... moral didactic I referred to earlier) is useless, and the only redemption for the idea, is entertainment. Juxtaposed, we now view Greek gods as fraudulent, so now we only utilize its secondary purpose: communication, as in literary allusions, or to interpret the midframe of the ancients; and in reading the Illiad or Oddesy, many people find, what? A very enjoyable read. Entertaining... one might say. My opinion on the existance of God is very similar to yours and though it has not changed at all for several years the debate never gets old to me. It is a shame if the discussion is no longer interesting to you. It is. But I sadly cannot help the way I feel about it anymore than a fish can help being indifferent to astrophysics. How is discussion a waste of time? Why do you resent Christianity? And why launch inappropriate attacks against it if doing so will make little difference in the belief of others than using intelligent debate instead? But I have already explained, discussing this subject has long since failed to suceed in enabling me to experience trains of thought which I have never considered before. Its like reciting 2 + 2 = 4 over and over, boring. Like I've always said, burden of proof rests with the theists, It is not my job to convince them but theirs to convince me, which explains why I have no obligation to care about convincing them. To the opposing deference, my impetus in making alternative inappropriate attacks has already been explained. Stubborn as I am, I have proven myself time and again capable of reason, and yet... none of them has tried to rationalize with me. And my divergence from Christianity began in this forum, I know when my conceptuality is blown. The 'winning' of an argument is not dependent on whether or not you convert others to your own opinion. But then, you said that you do not care about winning. I do. But that will never be as important as constructing a good argument to begin with. It just so happens that doing so usually secures victory for you. Very true. Winning feels good too. But loss... Yeah, it makes me miserable, and for some reason I'm driven towards it. I could win a hundred anti-theist arguments and I'll feel good about each one. But that one argument that I can't win, the one that undeniably logical, but wholly defiant to everything which I beleive. Oh, that's what I live for, thats the argument that I truly win. These arguments cease to be in Christianity. Ergo, boring. |
